Judo session
At 29 May 2010 I decided that I would start on my Judo session in an effort to slim down. I am not really looking forward to the judo training as I know that most likely I would hurt myself some how and I’m right! I managed to bruise my right thigh during first training…technically I didn’t bruise myself, my partner did.
In the first session, they taught about break fall which means learning how to fall onto the ground without breaking any of your bones… I learn the hard way that break fall would not work if your partner really wants to slam you to the ground.
I was partnered with this guy (I didn’t ask for his name) to practice our first slams which was o-goshi(hip toss bent legs). Look simple enough,
Step 1: you just need to do a half step forward while bending your legs with your right foot to your left foot at the same time break your partner balance by pulling his Gi up with your right hands, and pulling his Gi to the left with your left hand.
Step 2: grab your partner around the waist with your right hand.
Step 3: move your left leg to your right side so your back would be facing your partner, now straighten your legs, this would provide the strength to lift your partner up then you start to throw your partner to the right side…. SLOWLY.
My partner seem to ignore the last part of step 3 which is THROW ME SLOWLY and just to throw me… WITHOUT HOLDING ON TO ME! The slam hurt like hell, at first I thought that my break fall was faulty but after a few slam, I realize that, my partners was letting go of my Gi after slamming which lead me to fly into the ground at high speed(my weight plus his throw == painful breakfall)!
Note to anyone that is practicing judo, Do NOT Let Go of Your Partner!
On 31 May 2010, I decided that I would go on a Sunday so I would not have to practice with the same partner again. And I was right; the second session was less painful and less bruises! My partner manages to throw me without letting go of my Gi, grateful to him.
I manage to learn the straight leg hip block + toss which is call uki-goshi, my friend taught me the grab arm and throw over shoulder is ippon-seoinage and the the outside leg trip (deashi-barai) which I had not learn yet.
Oh and the gay move that you lay on the ground and the guy use his hip to press on u chest move (kesa-gatame)
Hope next session won’t be so painful >.<

Once you get better at breakfalls, or “Ukemi”, it won’t hurt so much. If you are new to Judo, your breakfalls are terrible. that’s normal. after a few weeks of hard practice, they start to work better, and after a couple years the only thing that will bother you about being thrown is having to stand back up.
Keep at it and good luck!
